CF4em

CF4em is a highly scalable, robust, feature-rich, ColdFusion based message board application. CF4em started out as a custom solution to a specific need but, with the requests of friends, colleagues and users, it has grown into much more. I've always been a fan of PHPBB and though I wouldn't necessarily say that CF4em is the ColdFusion solution to PHPBB, it is definitely the closest thing that I've seen.

I have been working on CF4em for quite some time now and have put many different versions into production. Each one has had more features and less bugs than its predecessor but with a schedule that only allows me to work on the application between other projects, it's taken a long time to convert CF4em to a standalone application but that is exactly what I have done. I hope you enjoy it!

CF4em 2.28-beta just uploaded
posted Mar 15, 2011
I have just uploaded another release (2.28-beta). You can find it in the downloads section as usual. You can also check the changelogs from there to see what was updated. The real new feature with this release was the addition of Gravatar.com avatar support. The biggest update was to old code and SQL to help performance. 2.28-beta marks the first release that requires an update to the database. If you were running a previous version and plan to upgrade (and keep your existing data), you... read more »

Another SQL Server Release of CF4em - 2.16-Beta
posted Mar 01, 2011
I have just uploaded the latest release (2.16-beta). You can find it in the downloads section. You can also check the changelogs from there to see what was updated. The first thing to note about this release is that it is SQL Server 2005+ only. I am no longer supporting MS Access or MySQL. However, the application should work with MySQL after some small tweaks. The of goal of 2.16-beta was to update some 4 year old code and give CF4em a big performance boost. That is exactly what the... read more »

New SQL Server version release - 1.98-beta
posted Feb 15, 2011
There are apparently still quite a few people using CF4em so I have decided to try and catch up on some bug fixes for you all. I have just uploaded the latest release (1.98-beta). You can find it in the downloads section. You can also check the changelogs from there to see what was updated. Basically, it just fixed the remaining reported bugs (that I was able to reproduce in the SQL server version) and cleaned up some SQL in the users component. I will try to get another release out... read more »

No longer supported or developed
posted Oct 25, 2010
Sorry folks. As you have probably noticed by the time between now and the last update, CF4em is no longer in development and is no longer supported. If I ever find the time to get a new release out, I will but time is something that is in short supply for me these days. There are a number of bug reports (some with fix explanations) and there are a few forum posts that hold answers to some common bugs. I suggest checking those places for any issues you might find and cannot... read more »

CF4em Multi-Language support
posted Apr 27, 2008
I am currently adding multi-language support to CF4em. If you are interested, capable and willing to translate the English language files to any other language, please let me know. You can use the contact form at http://cf4em.com/contact to contact me. I speak a couple different languages, but I learned everything I know from speaking, not writing so I am not comfortable at all translating text. Right now, the only... read more »

Thanks again to everyone who helped out by registering, testing things out and reporting any issues they may have found or requests they may have had. All issues to date have been resolved and most enhancement requests have been added (as well as quite a few that weren't requested). You can view the Change Logs for a complete list of changes between 1.36-beta and 1.76-beta. CF4em remains in beta because... read more »

You will find the first official beta release of CF4em available for download under the downloads section of CF4em.com. I've also thrown together a quick website to manage any bug reports, feature requests, and anything else CF4em related. I know it's not the greatest, but hey... I just wrote it last night! As you download, install and marvel at the wonder and glory that is CF4em, please remember that I am eagerly anticipating your findings, requests and opinions here at CF4em.com! read more »

Thanks to everyone who helped out with the test so far!
posted Apr 09, 2008
Reports of actual bugs have slowed down on AIM and email (and posts on the forum even... though there were only a couple actually posted to the forums) Everything seems to be requests (for features and a copy of the source) now so if no more reports come in for anything major before Friday, you can expect the first beta release to be available by then. Thanks to everyone who registered and/or gave your opinions and/or reported your findings. It has really helped point out some things... read more »

Interested in helping with a live test of CF4em?
posted Apr 07, 2008
I've tested, tested and retested CF4em as much as I can but, as most of you know, you are not always the best person to test your own applications. So, with that in mind, this is my plan to build a decent sized user base and thoroughly test a live installation of CF4em in an attempt to uncover and fix any common bugs that might pop up. Once I, and all of you, agree that everything is solid enough for a release, the current version, at that time, will be released as beta to anyone who wants... read more »
